Monta Knudson # 751 Race Report OMRRA
Wow what a long week for me and I am spent. It started with the NRS boot camp on the 8th and a Cascade Tracktime track day on the 9th with a race weekend on the 10th & 11th. Thank you to Tyson and his skilled crew for all the help to see we make it through our day.
NV4/NV5 Race 1
This is my first race ever so I grid up in my spot and I feel like my heart it going to rip out of my leathers, the last time I felt like this I was speaking at a conference with over 200 people present.( public speaking is also scary for me) The flag drops and off I go. I would not say it was a great start but I did not kill the bike and I did not see any clouds so I will call it good enough. Heading into T-1 I was really passive thinking just get through and let the race sort out. I was in six position coming around T-3 and following #706 for a lap and got by in T-4. Then I chased down #911 and we ran together for 3 laps and I finally got a good drive out of T-9 and got by on the front straight. By this time we lost one of the leaders up front which put me in 3rd position with about 11 seconds behind 2nd place. Best lap was 1:16.949
It was my first race and It was a great learning experience, now I have lots to think and work on.
NV4/NV5 Race 2
Same start as in race 1 I am in 6th position in T-3 but get into the 5th spot in T-4 and on the 2nd lap move into 4th spot on the back straight. I catch up to Manuel on #710 and I proceed to try to get by him, the only spot where I was significantly stronger was on the brakes and entry speed into seven. He would gain 2+ seconds on me with his drive out of 4 so where I was stronger into seven I could never utilize the strength. So on lap 6 my plan is to work on the drive out of 4, which I get a good one right in behind him shifting into 4th gear in T-5 (so I think) I dropped it into second gear! 4 day at the track with GP shifting and the only time I miss shift is NOW! Oh well, I had a great time following Manuel, he is a great smooth rider and we had a great race at a good clip. I made it through my first race weekend. Best lap was 1:15.780
I would like to thank Dustin Ranck and Mark Bothe and Amy Jermain for your novice support. The passion you have for this sport pours out of you in how you share what you know.
A big thanks to my wife for her support!
Thanks to my sponsors for making this happen for me
